Review of Footnote (2011) by Todd G — 12 Apr 2012
A quirky and pleasant movie that surprises you when it drifts toward confrontation. But the film fails to resolve any plot threads by the end.
Oddities like private meetings held in rooms that are too small for the occupants, explanatory graphics in the style of microfiche readers, and the instantaneous recognition by the world of the character's status all bring humor to the movie. Meanwhile the mean spirited nature of family and professional jealousy tear at the center of this movie with a cruel (yet just) passion.
However, plot threads are introduced over and over and never resolved. In itself not a sin, but since the movie leads up to a revelation without exploring the ramifications in the epilogue or climax, the sum of the movie is that you know nothing about the path the characters will follow past the final frame. Unsatisfying to say the least.
