Review of Footloose (1984) by Aurelius D — 13 Jul 2009
I was initially turned off by the sheer, glorious 80s camp that drips from this film. But Kevin Bacon really sells his character and by extension the whole movie. It's just aware enough of its own silliness to be fun, while taking itself seriously enough to be interesting.
A good example is the warehouse dance scene midway through. At first I was turned off by the cheesiness, but it wasn't long before I was in awe at the sheer talent and agility being displayed, and then I really enjoyed it.
I liked this movie; it not only made me want to learn to dance, it made me want to move to a little midwestern town where dancing has been outlawed.
