Review of Footloose (1984) by Ryan H — 17 Sep 2010
Perhaps I'm too much in love with 80s movies like these. I just want to point out how awesome it is that they used the song "Footloose" three times in the movie. No, it wasn't just clips of the song, but actually played it all the way through.
The movie works as a good satirical story for politics, even today. The small hick town seemed like a place Sarah Palin would be ruling and she is trying to take full control due to her religion. Except in this movie it's Lithgow's character, who happens to be more intelligent.
I know, don't get political here, but I can't help it. Chris Penn cracked me up as the farmboy friend. "Nice hat. Do they sell men's clothes where you got that?" And from then on they were bff's.
It's too bad that they try and get too serious for a bit or else it could have been a great film. We have them playing chicken with tractors, a girl trying to be a rebel because her father is a pastor, a boy who everyone thinks is bad, angry dancing, fight scenes.
This movie has it all plus some.
