Review of Footloose (1984) by Niloo R — 21 Jul 2014
Surprisingly disappointing - that being said I love musical/dance films ... so the fact that I found it mediocre is pretty depressing. the film had very little ACTUAL dancing even though the characters talked about dancing all the time and the routines that were there were weak and not fun to watch.
kevin bacon's character actually came of as a weak goodie-two-shoes (i.e. loser) even though they tried really hard to portray him as the "bad boy". the scene where he "lets off steam" by doing acrobatic tricks in a warehouse is hilarious in the worst way possible.
and to add to all this, the lead female is just a one-dimensional, attention-seeking slut, so it's very hard to relate to her or even sympathise with her. all this being said, I have to remind you that this was okay as a film, but just did not meet my expectations of what a dance film should be.
