If its even possible, this was dumber than Into The Blue, which was pretty dumb itself. However, the film does have a few moments. The comedy is terrible. They try too hard to make laugh-less jokes work.

The best moment in the film comes in the scene when Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson tell Donald Sutherland about the treasure. For that brief scene, you can truly see their character's passion and are able to take their characters seriously.

The moment is fleeting, for the film jumps right back into cheesy comedy and tedious and ineffective plot/character development. There is no denying the chemistry between McConaughey and Hudson, but you can't base a film entirely around chemistry.

On the plus side, Fool's Gold accomplishes what Into The Blue couldn't, it focused completely on the treasure hunting which allows it to be more entertaining at times than the second half of Into The Blue.

But that isn't enough to save it from its own shortcoming: the script.
