Review of Fool's Gold (2008) by Meriah V — 29 Mar 2009
A fun, fun escapist movie. Kate Hudson is typically adorable, Matthew McConaughey is even more gorgeous than the scenery, and the lightweight plot stretches credibility enough to release you from any need to justify watching.
Cast against tradition, Donald Sutherland is charming as British millionaire Nigel Honeycutt, playing a stereotyped role without seeming cliche. But my favorite character is Gemma, the ditsy daughter played by Alexis Dziena.
Astoundingly clueless, she nonetheless grows on you, and proves she's not as dumb as she seems. I watch this movie when I need a mini-vacay from reality, and it does the trick.
