Review of Fool's Gold (2008) by Scot C — 05 Sep 2010
"I got hit in the face with a cricket bat".
I think any story that involves find lost treasure, you would associate adventure with that. And this film is missing that, it had a great opportunity to make this film action packed and full of adventure, and it would of gone perfectly with this comedy genre. When the treasure is found (of course it is) its not a great moment in the film, where's it should be. The stakes needed to be higher for the characters and story. Just think of that film 'The Goonies', what a great cinematic moment it was when the treasure was discovered, but it was that great, because of the build up to it, with many and great obstacles that made it tough for them to find and get to it. This film was too long as well, the narrative could have been tightened up and fitted perfectly into 90 minutes. This film is somewhat entertaining but interested does get lost occasionally. The film does have spectacular locations, which gives is a fresh sun kissed feel while watching it. And Matthew McConaugney with the great energy he brings to his roles, is entertaining and perfectly cast. A really good supporting role for Ray Winstone as well.
