Review of Fool's Day (2013) by Byron B — 01 May 2014
The seventh in a set of shorts that I saw at the Cleveland International Film Festival 2014. This dark comedy had the audience gasping in shock and roaring with laughter! Director Cody Blue Snider's dad, Dee Snider, makes an appearance as a janitor, but it is the ragtag bunch of 4th graders who own this picture.
Adam (Liam Foley) leads the pack. It's April Fool's Day and all but one goody two-shoes student add any random ingredients they can find to their teacher, Mrs. Brandt's coffee. Little do they know that it will kill her in a most violent fashion.
Now it's time to work together to cover up the crime before their D.A.R.E. officer arrives at the appointed time. It's a mission impossible. Mitchell Jarvis plays the hilarious swaggering Erik Estrada-like Officer O'Donnell, who is clueless to all the hints that something is wrong with this 4th grade class.
After all, it's just a Fool's Day joke.
