Review of Food, Inc. (2008) by Xcv V — 28 Jul 2010
Food for thought. Very interesting film documentary (along the lines of my old m8 Michael Moore) about Americas food chain and how its dominated by a few massive corporations whos focus is making money above all else. Firstly, I have to say that this film is not anti-carnivore though if you are a veggie of any sort you might sit throughout this whilst in smug mode. It is more of an attack on the establishment and political process in the US and how money=power and power=you can do moreorless what you damn well like. It also highlights how the lower income groups are kinda stuck in a Hobsons Choice and are the most vulnerable to the tactics of the conglomerates.
I found parts of this genuinely disturbing and there are scenes in abattoirs and a women who is lobbying congress after losing her young son after eating E.Coli infected meat. The star of the show for me was the organic farmer in the White cowboy hat who spoke with a refreshing honesty and insight. I ever met him id like to buy him a beer.
I wonder how different the situation is here in the UK, I suspect that its not all that different at all?
