Review of Food, Inc. (2008) by Tarja M — 19 Jul 2011
I'm already a vegetarian and this movie still blew my mind. What I respect even more is it showed a case for still eating poultry/meat if that's a non-negotiable option (to go veg, that is)--but by showing a farmer who followed clean guidelines, but did everything outside in nature, and NOT in a "sterile" and "contained" windowless factory --and yet his chickens still significantly tested for way less ppm (parts per million) of bacteria than the "sterile-environment" chickens.
Also, it started opening my eyes to the dangers of GMO-soy and the crazy hold the government has with its patent. And what's worse, the freshest, organic food is too expensive for low-income families, so they eat processed foods by the bushel and get sicker and sicker for it, this creating a never-ending spiral of costly doctors' visits and ill health.
Yes, eating fresh and healthy is more work in the beginning, but in the end, isn't the time you save in your health and money (avoiding drs offices) worth it?! Even if you only use this movie as a jumping-off point to making smaller changes & it gets you to thinking, then the price of renting it alone is worth it.
