Review of Following (1999) by R T — 03 Mar 2010
Everybody's seen what Christopher Nolan can do with a hundred million dollars, some pyrotechnics, and Christian Bale. Here, he had a budget of ten dollars, some wannabe actors, and a hand-held camera.
And it's pretty fucking impressive, as low-budget indies go. The wickedly clever plot and the way he plays around with time is something he's since used in a few movies, but to see Nolan using so little to still produce such an outstanding film is testament to his skills as a writer and director.
If you've liked Nolan's other work, this short film is an absolute must-see. An awesome debut.
