Review of Following (1999) by Dustin G — 02 May 2010
An early cheapie from one of the true magicians of the cinema. It's cool to see where the guy that would direct one of the biggest blockbusters of all time started out. It's also an interesting precursor to Memento and to a lesser extent, The Prestige, using a similarly fractured timeline to tell the story.
You need to stick this one out to the very end to get the full benefit of it, which is fine as it's fairly involving and only an hour and ten minutes long.
It definitely has that student film look and feel, and who knows what happened to any of the actors in this film, but if you like interesting, original low budget movies, or if you're a fan of Christopher Nolan's other stuff, especially Memento, check it out.
