Review of Following (1999) by Travis R — 31 Jul 2010
A clever film with interesting characters and a plot that unfolds and snaps shut unlike anything you would expect for a mere $6000 production. Nolan is at his best moment here, with his story and interesting outlook towards life dominating the screen.
This leads me back to my obsession with disliking Inception. All the Hollywood big budget special effects and quota for action took away from that film. What if Inception were made with similar production values to this film? That film would be a much better film.
Not that there is anything wrong with a lot of special effects, just that film really didn't need them. Now back to Following: great film.
