Review of Following (1999) by Mako S — 29 Mar 2011
Nolan really wholly de-constructs the suspense plot and doles out bits of information in a non-linear fashion as he see appropriate. Similar non-linear time aspects as Momento, but thread-bare guerrilla production (as if Momento was not thin enough production value).
Scene through the eyes of Theobald a young writer who, has an odd fascination that turns into an obsession of following random people. He rationalizes it as he wants to learn more about people to aid in his writing.
The plot turns a 180 when a man he is following "Cobb" confronts him in a coffee shop. Cobb is a experienced thief with his own unique propensities. Cobb takes him on burglaries and the plot keep thickening adding more elements the blonde maul and the gangster, but also in a non-linear fashion.
The ending is not so much of the biggest Gotcha, its really trying to figure out how the bits fir together. If you enjoyed Memento this is a must see.
