Review of Following (1999) by Jay L — 21 Jul 2011
"Your never alone.".
Christopher Nolan's (Memento, The Prestige) first film as a Director was shot on 6000 dollar budget. The budget doesn't matter when an ingenious puzzle is placed right in front of you for you to solve. That's what this film is, it's a puzzle in the form of scenes, scenes that are thrown into your mind for it to piece together a story. Nolan has a spectacular talent, the man can play with your mind like no other director or writer out there, with an exception to David Mamet. It's a psychological puzzler that demands your attention throughout and gets better with multiple viewings. A strangely clever, utterly smart mind bender that is quite catchy for ye duration. A damn good directorial debut from a man who would go on to have a critically accaimed careersirecting films such as "Memento", "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight". If you liked any of Nolans films, give this one a shot, you won't be disappointed.
Jeremy Theobold and Nolans brother Jonathan star and actually give pretty good performances. Check it out.
