Review of Following (1999) by Abe F — 31 Aug 2012
Much like his filmmaking, watching Chris Nolan's catalogue in a somewhat reverse chronological order, has been a bizarre and yet incredibly rewarding experience. With 'Following,' being so evident of the conventions Nolan will later employ throughout his body of work (broken narrative, audience manipulation, black and white colour palette), for me, the actual story of the film ended up taking a backseat, as the director himself became my main point of intrigue. A solid debut for a now modern-day auteur.
A few interesting mementos: Batman symbol on apartment door, character named 'Cobb.' Hmm..
