Review of Following (1999) by Dan F — 10 Feb 2013
Enjoyable and definitely respectable for an independent, un-financed film, but undeniably flawed. The (non-professional) acting is iffy at times but I think the weakest aspect of the film is it's use of nonlinear narrative.
Perhaps it's the black & white film it was shot on or Nolan's editing equipment but I didn't think we, as the audience were given sufficient signals when the narrative switched time-frames.
That being said, it's writing (especially the final act) is suburb and efficient, and Alex Haw is impressive in his role as "Cobb," Bill's burglary-mentor (I can't believe I just used that phrase).
