Review of Following (1999) by Ben D — 30 Oct 2014
Following is an early example of Christopher Nolan's masterful skills at crafting a complex, yet understandable story. Like several of his later films, Following does not follow a linear structure, instead having each scene jump forwards or backwards in time.
Thankfully Nolan strings each scene together nicely without flat out telling the audience what is happening. This technique allows the audience to think a little and it shows that Nolan is willing to give a film his all.
This extra effort is what really elevates this film from a good one to a great one. It's a tightly structured noir, and I highly recommend it.
