Review of Following (1999) by Darryl L — 03 Dec 2013
Following is the micro-budget neo-noir debut film from Christopher Nolan; it concerns the Young Man, Bill, and how he gets wrapped up in a seedy underworld caper through a thief named Cobb. It is worth watching not only for its own qualities, but also for how it displays many of the themes and tricks that Nolan explores more effectively in his later films: disjointed narrative; the fluidity of identity and appearances; manipulation of relationships; and the fact that not everything is as it seems.
Following is a brief experience at just over an hour, but it is worth the time for anyone who wants to see where Nolan started his exploration of film.
