Review of Focus (2015) by Sam G — 13 Dec 2015
Margot Robbie is an engaging presence on the screen, committing to a script that doesn't ask her to do very much more than to be a pretty face and body. In fact, that really might sum up what this move is all about: a very superficial con-artist movie that barely tries to inject some characterization in this paper-thin story.
The most that can be said is that it looks really good, but personalities drive the best heist movies. In order for an audience to care about people doing very illegal (and/or immoral) activities, those people have to be sympathetic and engaging in some way.
There was barely any of the in "Focus," and I'm hoping that there will be more character in the next Will Smith-Margot Robbie vehicle, "Suicide Squad.".
