Review of Focus (2015) by Mloy X — 14 Feb 2016
Owens: There's a lazy Sunday softness to your generation. Makes me uncomfortable. I like to be on my feet. I'll lie down when I get cancer. Or if I fuck. Both of which will be done on my back, in case you were wondering.
Nicky: Actually, I wasn't wondering. But thank you for sharing that.
Owens: Sarcasm. Another pillar of your generation. You wanna tell somebody to fuck off, tell them to fuck off. Don't say, "Gee, what a great jacket." It's weakness.
This was surprisingly good; I mean, Will Smith has proven his acting chops but Margot Robbie has always been just a pretty face to me. She actually did very well in this film and her on-screen chemistry with Smith was simply explosive. They make a good pair together; but the runaway performance belonged to veteran actor, Gerald McRaney who play his tough-as-nails body guard to the elite role very convincingly, he's actually a little scary. Mad props also to my all time favorite actor, B.D. Wond whose portrayal of Liyuan was just ubber awesome; he was just plain cool. Also kudos to Adrian Martinez who played lovable con-artist Farhad so brilliantly you can't help but like him and all his criminal cohorts even though technically their actually scumbugs, if you really think about it. The story was interesting, a con-heist flick is always is and the conclusion was just alright but overall this film was really entertaining.
