It's nice to see Wil Smith in a film where he's allowed to be charismatic again. The con elements of this film work very well, and it is here that he and Margo Robbie have good chemistry. The romance parts of the film really bog everything down though, and I was just waiting for it to get to the next con part.
That said, the way the story is structured the two parts do tie together, so I can't see how they could be separate. Overall, mostly enjoyable, but do expect a few rough spots between some clever bits.
