Review of Flypaper (2011) by Riz A — 30 Sep 2011
Though it's sloppy, derivative, not much to look at and most of the actual jokes fall flat, there's a strange energy to Flypaper. Maybe it's how desperate it's attempts at comedy are, or maybe it's just that - no matter how lame the writing or stupid the situation - Tim Blake Nelson and Pruitt Taylor Vince can bring inject energy into an otherwise inert film.
Dempsey falters here, which is surprising. I find the guy brings a charming touch to light comedies of this sort, but here he comes off as an annoying caricature. It doesn't help that his makeup and the lighting make him look like a dark, sweaty mess for 90% of his screen time.
