Review of Flypaper (2011) by Garth J — 05 Jan 2012
When I say a movie is "cute," that isn't a very high compliment. Flypaper is cute. The characters are not well developed and we don't get very attached to them. But for this comedy, that's ok. It's 90 minutes, so not a huge investment.
Now, there are some enjoyable characters and they do bring laughs. The strongest element was the premise of a bank being robbed by two groups of crooks at the same time. The plot gets interesting and isn't predictable. The robbers have some funny exchanges with each other and with the hostages, and we want to continue watching. The level of interest is maintained and the ending is satisfying. Patrick Dempsey and Ashley Judd are surprisingly weak and the minor romance doesn't work. If it had, this movie would have been quite a bit better.
I'll give Flypaper a 6 1/2. It is worth watching, but not at full theater prices.
