Review of Flying Down to Rio (1933) by Katie R — 15 Sep 2007
This movie is really only of historical interest -- as the only pre-Code F&G movie (check out Ginger's see-through dress and the scene where a bunch of dancers' clothes blow off in the wind for no apparent reason) and as an early example of a director going crazy with special effects.
"Ooo, look, I can make it look like there are two Dolores Del Rios instead of just one! I can cut from scene to scene with a pinwheel effect! I can get hundreds of people in front of the camera at once! This is all so exciting and novel!" Yeah.
I'd get the DVD and skip all the non-F&G scenes; you don't miss much worth seeing.
