Review of Flyboys (2006) by Danny D — 22 Mar 2009
Considering I know nothing about war conflict, I don't know how accurate this movie is to the true story it is based off of. BUT that's not why I love this movie! I love seeing James Franco play another role besides his debut in Spiderman, andI love the plot line. The comradery of the men in this movie is unmistakably moving to me, and really gives a "live life to the fullest while you have the time" perspective. It also ends justly from my point of view. I was excited at the end, cheering on the hero! And even the love story part of it inspired me. Rowlings goes from frustrated young man to finding purpose in his life. Meanwhile he finds beauty that has no words...( hehe, they can't speak each other's language!) As much as I dislike Romeo and Juliette types of love, this one blends well into the movie, and once again reinforces that you should cherish the good moments, and protect what is beautiful.
One more note on this movie...Hard liquor can become a vile and bad habit for some, but in war times where stress is extremely high, and medicine is unavailable when one is hurt (physically, emotionally, or mentally), I see now how the liquor did provide some relief for such a difficult time. It makes me thankful for the sacrifices those men made during war times.
