Review of Flyboys (2006) by Teuvo J — 02 Feb 2008
I love this film! It's not your usual war story. It's about fighting in air, and some of them for the first time in WW1. I loved James Franco's performance. He really lived up to the heroic but stubborn character in the film. I feel sad about the real character played by Franco not being able to find his true love in Paris though. Wonder why he gave up so easily? Anyway, this film really makes you see the battles in air worth dying for. Amazing tactics and improvisations done by the pilots. One scene in particular made me really sad. It was when the rich and chubby pilot got his plane on fire and he had no choice but to shoot himself in the head, instead of accepting the torture of burning and falling down on the ground.
The visual effects were amazing and the planes were exact in detail. A great epic story worth watching a thousand times. I salute the real people who fought by air in WW1.
