Review of Flushed Away (2006) by David A — 08 Jun 2010

A witty romantic thrill ride from Dreamworks (the Shrek people) and Aardman Studios (the Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit people) -- truly the best of both worlds. Jackman is a spoiled pet rat who finds himself lost in the sewers and in need of Winslet's help to get him home. Along the way, they discover an evil toad (McKellan) is planning to flush away all of the sewer-dwellers and they must thwart his deadly plot. Highlights include McKellan's brilliant over-the-top performance, a hilarious French mime frog, and a group of singing slugs who keep popping up for comic relief. Though I did wish the film better established Jackman's circumstances at the beginning, 20 minutes in, I was hooked.
