Review of Flushed Away (2006) by Gareth C — 27 Jan 2009
Roddy, a pampered rat living in a posh house, gets flushed down the toilet. There, he discovers a city full of rats and gets involved in a plot to destroy it.
Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackman never cease to amaze me with how versatile they are. Kate Winslet goes from romance to drama to children's films so easily and seamlessly. After X-men, seeing him in any other role shocks me, especially when he sang in Happy Feet, and plays Roddy the wimp of a rat here in FLushed Away. If I didn't know, I would've never guessed that it was them.
The animation isn't on par with Pixar, but who expects it to be? The animals are very stylized, but thats fine. There is too much value attributed with realistic animation.
The opening of Family Guy, sings about old fashioned values. I can't say we really have those anymore. Flushed Away tells us the importance of family and how money isn't everything.
This was a fun, fun film. I really enjoyed it. While its not the sort of film that I'd love, but I enjoyed it, I laughed, it had something good to tell me, and that's definitely worth something. By not being British, I'm sure I've missed loads too.
