Review of Flushed Away (2006) by Ian M — 11 Mar 2012
This computer animated British film directed by David Bowers and Sam Fell stars the voice talents of Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Andy Serkis, Bill Nighy, Ian McKellen, Shane Richie and Jean Reno. The story is not something exceptional but maybe that's was needed for the life of Roddy St. James (Hugh Jackman) , a decidedly upper crust pet rat who lives in a posh Kensington flat, starting a new life outside.
This film is not a pure flop... That unique Aardman style look is well noticeable in the characters and set designs, and there are those familiar overbites, expressive mouths and hand gestures (the only difference is that now they were rendered on a computer)... but that's it, and when you actually try to remember what was something special in this animated film, there was nothing to say! Recycling was the first thought coming on my mind. All the charm and an effervescent wit, and singing slugs to boot were somehow simply flushed away!
