Review of Fluke (2008) by Briana W — 30 Aug 2009
This was a very beautiful and yet heartbreaking film. One of the saddest I have seen. When I saw it as a child I understood the story but was hurt by how sad it was and didn't pick it back up for years later til' I was older and I could respect it more. I adore this film not as an adult but I myself would not recommend this film to young children just based on watching the trailer because it is very misleading. The story was pretty heavy at times and I think it's a wonderful family film but possibly an older family? Not little children. This movie is a perfect example of an animal movie that appeals to young audiences but then ends up being very sad. Today's example would be Marley and Me. Many people complained about that film not being what they expected when they took their young children to the theater to see it. I will keep in mind for the future with any children of mine to screen some animal movies before letting them see them because most animal movies I've come across are actually quite sad, especially this one. I really do love/hate it all at the same time because it's such a sweet story and yet it is the one and only film that is guaranteed to always make me bawl my eyes out towards the end of the film.
Also, this movie had one of the most dramatic and heartfelt musical scores I've ever heard.
