Review of Flowers in the Attic (1987) by Jill W — 06 Apr 2008
Like most books turned movie, the book is far better than the film. The movie is, in fact, awful when it comes right down to it. The acting is laughable, the lighting & cinematography is terrible. It is somewhat faithful to the book, although the ending is different, some details are changed, & of course, much of the story is missing.
I saw this film right after it came to video in 1988 & before I ever read the book. For that reason it has a special place in my heart. The only really good thing about the film was Louise Fletcher as The Grandmother.
Very good casting. Other than that, if you'd read the book, you can skip this movie.
