Review of Flower Drum Song (1961) by Kim W — 09 Sep 2007
I enjoyed this Rodger & Hammerstein film even if it isn't playing it safe in racial politics. Listen to the song's chorus for "The other generation" and you'll hear a little bit of the same tempo and rythm that was used later for the song "Maria" in the Sound of Music.
I did find the character of Mei Li a little annoying, but the singing and the dance scenes are really well filmed. This is an underrated R&H production but will be enjoyable for R&H fans.
