Review of Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) by Nathan C — 10 Jul 2016
I just saw this movie in an advance screening and I loved it!!
Warning, this review has minor spoilers but nothing you haven't seen in the trailer.
Meryl Streep shines (as always) in this sweet biopic of a talentless but charming Florence Foster Jenkins. This movie will make you laugh and cry. Hugh Grant plays her devoted husband who spends his time and energy sheltering Florence from the cruel words of critics, in fact, all the people who surround her are there to encourage her dream of becoming a great singer. If you like me, is fed up of watching movies full of glorified violence then Florence Foster Jenkins is the right movie for you! I don't think there's even a curse word in the whole movie, you'll leave the theater satisfied and with a tear or two in your eyes. The plot is simple and it's quite successful, you dive into the New York of the 1940's and fully enjoy it. This movie doesn't pretend to be grand or a blockbuster, it's a sweet movie that stays with you even after you left the theater.
The preview audience truly enjoyed it, they cheered for Florence all the way to the end. I highly recommend it. 4/5 stars.
