Review of Flipped (2010) by Ana D — 03 Mar 2011
I don't understand hollywood. Crappy movies continue to get made and promoted and decent films don't find a home. Flipped is a good movie, not great, but a very good movie with characters that are well rounded and enjoyable to watch.
Hollywood didn't support it, advertise it, and let it die on the vine. It's a pity. If you like the Wonder Years or Stand By Me, you'll like this. Madeline Carroll who plays Juli, the young girl, has a great future.
Anthony Edwards, John Mahoney and Aidan Quinn round out a very well cast ensemble. This is a coming of age story set in the early 60s about adolescence...and love, and the confusion that such a strong emotion has on adolescence.
It's a sweet story about a girl and a boy...the girl has loved the boy since she met him and he, not so much. But the feelings grow, and flip, and maybe I'm too sentimental, or maybe this is an idolized version of the way I'd like to think adolescence should be, but I was happy to spend an hour and a half with these people reminiscing the way things used to be.
..or should have been. If you can find it, see it.
