Review of Flipped (2010) by Debbie M — 30 Dec 2010
***You never forget your first love.***.
Plot: Two eighth graders start to have feelings for each other despite being total opposites. Based on the novel "Flipped" by Wendelin Van Draanen.
Storyline: Juli Baker devoutly believes in three things: the sanctity of trees (especially her beloved sycamore), the wholesomeness of the eggs she collects from her backyard flock of chickens, and that someday she will kiss Bryce Loski. Ever since she saw Bryce's baby blues back in second grade, Juli has been smitten. Unfortunately, Bryce has never felt the same. Frankly, he thinks Juli Baker is a little weird--after all, what kind of freak raises chickens and sits in trees for fun? Then, in eighth grade, everything changes. Bryce begins to see that Juli's unusual interests and pride in her family are, well, kind of cool. And Juli starts to think that maybe Bryce's brilliant blue eyes are as empty as the rest of Bryce seems to be. After all, what kind of jerk doesn't care about other people's feelings about chickens and trees? With Flipped, mystery author Wendelin Van Draanen has taken a break from her Sammy Keyes series... One quote:
Bryce Loski: There was a... bee in her hair.
Dana Tressler: There's no bee.
Directed by: Rob Reiner.
Length: 1hr 30 min.
Grade: 10/10 Love it!
Comments: I remember, when I in high school and read this book... it was different, a different way of writing and I loved it!
How to approach a situation from a guy's and a girl's perspective. Can't recall all the details but the movie refreshed some of the memories. The movie isn't in anyway mind blowing, it is simply cute, taking you back in time, as if you are for one and a half hour went to the early 1960's. The way the people dressed, their hair, the "basket boys" ^^, the way a neighbourhood was etc. As for the actors the young Juli Baker caught my attention, she is played by Morgan Lily. Such a cutie. The movie has some sort of charm around it, just like the book had to me, the actors played their part very well and lived up to their characters in an amazing way. I don't want complain or add anything to the movie, it was complete and satisfying and I enjoyed every second of it. Pure, Simple, Cute, Innocent, Touching, Emotional, Childish yet completely Magical.
I would recommend families, friends to get a blanket, a hot cup of chocolate a teddy and watch this movie. It is recommended for people who needs to take a step back and just relax because the movie is definitely worth the watch :).
Have a good day and I hope you enjoyed reading my review+critique.
