This is a very divisive movie. I think that you need to be used to hou's style of film making (millienium mambo, city of sadness, etc). the film at times is very reminiscient of realist french films of the 60s like jeanne dielmann or the mother and the whore.
the visuals are absolutely beautiful and though the plot is not entirely memorable, it doesnt matter. binoche and song are both fantastic. definetely one of the best of 08 so far.
