A typical Hsiao-hsien Hou's style- in addition to its long length, abundant unedited (static) long shots; all the story progression, characters' background , etc have to be realized between the dialogue lines. Only switching from speaking Mandarin (or sometimes Southern Fukien dialect) to French this time. Too insipid for my appetite.
