Review of Flight (2012) by Nick K — 17 Nov 2013
Subtlety isn't a strong point for Zemeckis, any of this films metaphors and themes come at you like an inverted plane. Strong performances and an interesting character, but it's all far too familiar if you've seen Harvey Keitel in the original Bad Lieutenant.
The theme of a drunk, drug addled boozer, with what's meant to be a respectable job, finding redemption in God was handled more honestly and ferociously with Keitel. Say what you want about Harvey Keitel, he bared everything in his film (literally) and it will always remain one of the strongest films dealing with this subject matter.
This is exactly as expected, a film about a drunk as done by Robert Zemeckis. When it comes to this kind of a subject matter, Zemeckis is no Abel Ferrarah.
