Review of Flight (2012) by Marco F — 05 Jun 2014
FLIGHT is a really good movie about a complex character who struggles with substance abuse problems- this kind of story is made too often, and nearly never well enough. It is here, however- it even manages to be original and boast a remarkably compelling performance from Denzel Washington, the drunken addict of an airline pilot whom the film centers around.
While drunk and high on cocaine, Whip Whitaker (Washington) becomes the pilot of a faulty aircraft which crashes soon after taking off. The film is not just about the plane crash, but about Whitaker's own life, which swirls out of control very quickly.
It is a powerful, impressive return to live-action cinema by the great Robert Zemeckis.
