Review of Flight (2012) by Raji K — 03 Oct 2014
Despite all the odds Captain Whip Whitaker (Denzel Washington) is able to land a plane safely despite severe equipment fail. In all reruns of the simulation all passengers are killed, making the landing all the more impressive, but there is a problem, and that was that he had few drinks prior and on the flight.
This becomes the primary focus on the investigation, while Whitaker insists that had nothing to do with it and the simulations prove it. The Flight itself although is a primary plot point, this film is much more about addictions and how we will deny them and use excuses to cover up or deviate any aspect of the truth.
The Flight itself being a microcosm of this denial and problem that many Americans have. Flight was a surprisingly good film and Washington and Zemeckis teamed up well.
