Review of Flight (2012) by Scott W — 15 Dec 2014
This movie isn't quite what I thought it would be, but it still was a really good film, driven forward by Denzel Washington's predictably fantastic performance in the lead role. If ever there was a movie to demonstrate the evils of alcoholism, this is it.
Washington's character Whip is his own worst enemy and his hard-drinking ways end up turning what could have made him a hero into something that makes him a pariah, someone who refuses the whole time to admit he has a problem or accept responsibility until the very end.
The movie does have a few issues though. The somewhat random soundtrack is one, the sound mixing is another (the dialogue sounded way too soft to me - although that could have just been the copy I watched).
In the end though, the movie is powerful and worth watching for its message and Washington's performance alone.
