Review of Flight (2012) by Ken S — 08 Nov 2013
Robert Zemeckis makes a triumphant return to live-action filmmaking with "Flight" a drama about an alcoholic pilot who makes a miraculous crash landing after the plane malfunctions, and is forced to slowly come to terms with his demons as his every move in the events leading up to and during the tragic flight are scrutinized.
Denzel Washington gives an excellent performance, and the direction from Zemeckis is his best since "Cast Away". John Goodman also gives a great supporting role (though he doesn't have that much screen time, he steals the show each time he shows up).
Zemeckis should stick to live-action, he knows how to get good performances from actors, and no matter what he gets out of them with performance capture, the technology just inhibits the actual depth of the performance.
I liked this film, I wouldn't say it was the best of 2012, or even of Zemeckis or Washington's careers...but it was a solid drama with plenty to offer.
