Review of Flicka (2006) by Mel S — 25 Dec 2007
One star. And you know what go it the one star? The fact that there were horses in it. That's it. THE GIRL CAN'T RIDE! Every time she got up on a horse, she FELL off, she didn't dismount, she FELL. She bounced everywhere, sat too far back, and gave young children DANGEROUS ideas about training horses. Least realistic thing in the world. And I'm not even going to go on to how they called a bosal a hackamore. MAJOR FAIL.
I compete with and train horses. This is the biggest load of horse training crap I've seen since "Spirit, Stallion of the Cimmaron". Who the heck gets up on a wild horse bareback and lives? No one.
It was also very lame and typical. O NO TAKING HORSE AWAY let's run after her in the rain! Like, really, I love horses. And horse movies. And I'm picky about horse movies but normally I can set aside the flaws and see the good in the movie. Not this one.
Young children are going to see this and think "I can train my horse!" and the rich kids will get an untrained horse and then kill themselves trying to train it.
What's more? In "My Friend Flicka" (the book this was based off of) the main charavter was a guy, and the filly was a chestnut.
But nuuu. Girls are more "horsey" and black is a better color than red!! Seriously.
I'd also like the complain that a horse DIED in the making of this movie. Thanks.
The best part about this movie was seeing Tim McGraw and the other boys at the farm actually KNOW HOW TO RIDE.
And they actually DISMOUNTED off the horses, they didn't get THROWN EVERY SINGLE TIME.
The ammount of times she fell in the movie is probably more than I've fallen - ever.
