Review of Flicka (2006) by Heather L — 06 Jul 2008
Flicka does have heart, but as one already said the acting and the dialogue is something that you can probably only overlook once. Horses are my favorite animal, and on screen they are amazing to watch, especially in their wild habitat. As expected, the cinematography is beautiful.
The story itself has emotional appeal, but once it's over it's quickly forgotten. The real problem is in the performances. Great family flicks manage to balance a sense of safety with a bit of a raw, realistic edge, and this film plays it way too safe. So much so that it makes the characters feel forced and fake. The horses definitely steal the show, and it gets credit for trying.
