Review of Flicka (2006) by Rebecca C — 18 Jan 2010
Incredibly fake in many aspects, with a soundtrack that perfectly fits the over-dramatized scenes depicted without fail in every new sequence. Genuinely hilarious at times, especially the way the director couldn't seem to decide if the family was supposed to be the true Wyoming rancher type, rednecks, or a modernized wealthy and dysfunctional family.
Traces of each are present at different times and sometimes all at once, adding to the humor. All in all the group came off as if they'd moved to the ranch from a wealthy urban area not more than a day before this thing was shot.
The relationships between the parents, and especially the kids, were over-done beyond the point of humor or beauty. Lohman does decent with the role she was given, but McGraw and Kwanten shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near the set.
