Review of Fletch Lives (1989) by Adam F — 08 Aug 2007
"Does everything come with its' head still attached around here? You bet, honey! Glad I didn't order a hamburger." "Ever hear of the Emancipation Proclamation? I heard of it, but it didn't get much publicity around these parts.
" Both of these parts are so true and so funny! The Louisiana plantations are gorgeous! After visiting several and living in Louisiana for the last 18 years, I can say that yes, everything (except the hamburgers) comes with a head in the southern part of the state.
... And, yes, (sadly) there is still a great deal of predjudice, but surprisingly more so in North Louisiana, than the south (contrary to popular belief). The "Deep South" has come a long way in civility towards all races.
North Louisiana, however, is still in the dark ages. Even the schools are still segregated (whether there are written rules or not, it's still obvious). Chevy Chase's televangelist character is right on the money.
Maybe not every single one, but most of the stereotypes presented by this movie are so funny because they are true! As hard of a choice it is, I'd say I like this movie better than the first one. The National Lampoon movies were a sad waste of Chevy Chase's time and talent.
He played such an idiot. Fletch and Fletch Lives definitely demonstrate Chevy Chase's true talent.
