Review of Flawless (2007) by Jennifer A — 04 Jul 2005
Flawless is a terribly flawed movie that had potential but ultimately fails because of a weak script and too many stereotypes. The story centers around the relationship of a conservative, homophobic stroke victim Walt (DeNiro) and a flamboyant drag queen Rusty (Philip Seymour Hoffman).
After Walt's stroke, he enlists Rusty to help him with voice lessons. An unlikely bond is formed. Although the writing is not very good, DeNiro and Seymour do show some chemistry and do everything they can to make this film work.
They just can't overcome the script. A terrible sub-plot involving a drug deal gone bad and too many gay stereotypes ultimately drown this film. Too bad because the premise an acting skills of DeNiro and Hoffman could have been put to better use.
