Review of Flawless (2007) by Oren S — 18 Jun 2006
Schumacher's dramedy is a rough affair. He's got two great actors doing what they do admirably (extra chops to Phil Hoffman, wonderful performance), but unfortunately, their source material is severely lacking.
The film presents us with painfully one-dimentional and simple characters and puts them in the most obvious situation possible. Oh, look, the homophobic tough guy cop has to take singing lessons from a drag queen homosexual.
Let the conflict begin. The crime/drug dealing sub-plot is as ridiculous as it is in any Schumacher flick, and the whole set-up is so... simplistic and flat. For instance, why is the NYC gay community composed entirely of drag queens? Homosexuals don't all dress up like women, you know.
