Review of Flawless (2007) by Jess S — 18 Jan 2008
Phillip Seymour Hoffman is FLAWLESS as a embattled Drag Queen (Performance Artist).
Robert DeNiro (Walter) is a Homophobic Hero Policeman who has a Stroke while pursuing a culprit who was responsible for the death of Drag Queen.
As neighbors, their tumultuous relationship becomes even more so when, on the advice of a Speech Therapist, Walter begin to take singing classes to improve his speech from his nemesis (Rusty).
What Director Joel Schumacher teaches us in this film is there is a "lifestyle" (Walter) and a "life given" (Rusty). When the layers are peeled off of these characters, they come to have a genuine respect and caring for one another.
In my opinion, this is the film that Phillip Seymour Hoffman should have won an Oscar for. He keeps his character tight and believable.
The supporting cast is a scream, especially Rory Cochrane (CSI Miami) as a loser who cannot keep a girl friend and write hilarious songs about his love gone wrong.
If I had 10 thumbs, they would all be up!
